Linoprintmaking Workshop: First Floor Space

  • Croydon Arts Store Whitgift Centre CR0 1UP United Kingdom (map)

Make your own lino prints in this free workshop run by First Floor Space's current artist in residence, Debbie Chessell.

This workshop will teach students the core steps required to create lino prints at home - no previous experience is required. All art materials will be provided - you don't need to bring anything with you apart from enthusiasm! You will leave the class with your own beautiful handmade print, the lino plate you carved (meaning you can make more prints at home) and the knowledge needed to get into printmaking.

What you'll do:

The workshop will start with an introduction to lino printmaking, including a short tour of the residency exhibition featuring prints, paintings and installations by Debbie Chessell, Maria Gerard and Rosie McGinn. You will then be able to choose a reference image for your print from a bundle of old photographs, postcards and other interesting pictures (you're welcome to bring an image with you if you have one in mind), followed by a good chunk of time where you'll be shown how to carve and let loose to create your own lino plate. Finally, Debbie will teach you how to ink up your plate and you'll print up your own design.

To ensure everyone has time to ask as many questions as they need and receives thorough support, this class only has ten spaces.

This workshop is very kindly sponsored by the fantastic art supplier, Great Art UK. They sell an incredible range of art materials for all techniques from traditional fine art painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking, to graphic art and illustration, airbrushing and model making. They also offer an extensive range of stretched canvas and display products for exhibitions as well as all the materials required to create your own bespoke canvases, and custom framing and mounting services.
